Abstract
Psychotic depression is characterized by the same.signs and symptoms as those present in non psychotic deperession, usually in worsened farm, with the addition of delutions or hallucinations. DSM111 defines major depressive disorder with psychotic features by the prevaence of hallucinations, delusions or catatonia.
The prevalence of the psychosis among depressed adults has been reported in various studies, ranging 1654%, and 2560% in de-pressed inpatients. Delusions are more common than hallucinations in psychotically depressed adults, and hallucinations appear to occur more frequently than delusions in psychotically de-pressed children.
Response rate of treatment by ECT is higher than that by any other tools(eg. psychotherapy, TCA, MAGI, neroleptics, and neroleptics-antidepressant combination)
Authors experienced a patient with this disorder and report this case with a brief review of literature.
